Firefox has stopped displaying images when not viewed in a HTML page ( when linked to directly )

I've heard from a few people that they have been experiencing a problem with Firefox where clicking on any link that goes directly to an image ( not to a HTML page with images in it ) produces the following error:

the image 'imageNameHere.gif' cannot be displayed, because it contains errors

This problem is caused by one of two things

Skype Add-Ons Firefoxa) The image your trying to view is in CMYK format ( yes - JPGs can be CMYK )

b) You have Skype installed and the Add-On for it in Firefox is mis-behaving.

If its the former there is nothing you can do unless the image is yours to change, if its the latter then simply do the following:

  1. Go to Tools > Add Ons in Firefox
  2. Highlight the Skype Extension for Firefox
  3. Click "Disable" ( or uninstall )
  4. Restart Firefox

This should solve the problem!
